PUERTO RICO
UAF HURRICANE RESPONSE
Maria, the deadly category 5 hurricane struck the island of Puerto Rico in September of 2017. The island was devastated. Our fellow American citizens were calling out for help.
It didn't take long for United Aid Foundation volunteers to respond. With large commercial airlines grounded for several weeks, UAF used back channels of small planes to get into the island with supplies.
UAF sent three teams to Puerto Rico, delivering food, water filters, solar lights and tarps. Even three weeks after Maria struck our volunteers were still delivering supplies to those in mountain communities who had not yet received aid.
Through the generosity of donors our volunteers distributed water filters that assured families had clean drinking water during the months water service was down, and blow-up solar lamps that became the only source of light for communities that waited nearly a year for electricity to be restored.
UAF also brought much needed food and supplies to a senior center where displaced elderly residents were able to take shelter and receive medical and emotional support.
